For terminology purposes, Criminal Record Check is referred to as (CRC), Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) are one and the same.

Please check your Hockey Canada Registry (HCR 3.0) account to verify that your VSS /VSC or CRC document is up to date and is not expired.  These documents expired in May, 3 years following the year in which they were issued.

For Officials 18 years and over, failure to have an updated VSC / VSS document on your HCR profile will prevent you from registering to re-certify for the 2023-2024 season.

If you have had a VSS / VSC document on your HCR in the past but it has since expired, and you are in need of a new document, please apply for a CRC

On your HCR profile, you will find the status of your police check, including the expiry date under the 'History tab' and then 'Background Check'

If your expiration date is prior to the 2023-24 season, you must obtain AND submit a new Police Check to the OWHA so that it can be added to your HCR profile before you can register for and complete teh online modules and exam.

Note: A VSC / VSS document is only required to be on your HCR profile ONCE.  If your VSC / VSS has expired, then you only need to provide a Criminal Record Check (CRC).

  • On-Ice Officials aged 17 and under are NOT required to provide a Police Record Check.  If you turn 18 during the season, it is your responsibility to provide us with your Police Record Check.
  • On-Ice Officials aged 18 years and over MUST provide a VSC / VSS document if you do not have one on your HCR profile.
  • When requesting a VSC / VSS document, you may be required to provide a letter to your local police service. A copy of the VSC / VSS Request letter can be downloaded from here.
  • If you have initiated the process of obtaining a VSC / VSS, please submit a copy of your receipt. This will be used to TEMPORARILY update your HCR profile until you can provide us with your actual document.
  • If your HCR profile indicates your VSC / VSS expiry date is beyond the 2023 / 2024 season, you MUST complete sign and submit the Criminal Offence Declaration Form to the OWHA Office.

Please ensure submission of your CRC, VSC / VSS or Criminal Offence Declaration Form through the following method:

Scan as a PDF and email to: clinics@owha.on.ca.

When submitting via email or scan (PDF), if it is not deemed as a true copy - Submission of the original will be requested (pictures or images of your document will NOT be accepted).

Please contact the OWHA via email (clinics@owha.on.ca) if you have any questions about this process.

Please Note: As of May 15th, 2021, e-Hockey (HCR 2.0) has been retired - The NEW platform (HCR 3.0) has been up and active as of June 1st, 2021.

If you have been registered in hockey previously as a Player, Coach, Official, or Trainer and have not already created your HCR 3.0 profile, you can do so HERE.
